Fake Game 3: Seahawks vs. Packers (Preview)

There’s a documentary called Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse about the making of the classic Francis Ford Coppola film Apocalypse NowIt’s a doc about a movie, and the most interesting thing about it is that it’s more interesting than the movie it’s about.  Apocalypse Now is pretty good; Hearts of Darkness is phenomenal.

I was thinking about this as I was enjoying the latest episode of Hard Knocks.  I can’t stand watching preseason football, and yet I can’t get enough of a show about preseason football.  How meta.  And it presents a good solution to the plague that is the preseason.  Instead of trying to sell us boring, meaningless games, the NFL should be selling us more series about the boring, meaningless games.  What if every team had their own Hard Knocks, and then instead of airing a weekly game they aired a weekly episode?  How much more entertaining would that be?  You’re telling me you wouldn’t want to get see a serial documentary featuring Richard Sherman and Beastmode and Pete Carroll?  That wouldn’t be better than watching DeShawn Shead intercept Brock Osweiler in the fourth quarter of 40-10 game that isn’t going to count in the standings anyway?  It’ll never happen — too many teams don’t want camera crews snooping around their practices (especially those who have problems with… uh… Adderall… yeah, Adderall) — but it should.

Anyway, ‘Hawks vs. Packers tonight.  What’s the over-under on the number of times Golden Tate‘s infamous touchdown is referenced?  I’d set the line at the two replays and two more verbal references at some point during the game.

Also, the Seahawks traded guard John Moffitt this week, twice, actually.  Moffitt got some run over the past two years, starting 12 games, but it sounds like he was moving the wrong way on the depth chart, so… meh… I seriously doubt fans will be lamenting his loss anytime soon.  And who knows, maybe Sealver Siliga will be the next Cortez Kennedy.  No?  Sam Adams?  Still no?  Todd WeinerChartric DarbyRiddick Parker?  OK, never mind.
